Mets get close look at Asiana Airlines crash site

The New York Mets and San Francisco Giants begin a three-game series at AT&T; Park Monday night, two struggling teams looking to gather momentum before the All-Star break.

But their baseball woes paled in comparison to more significant issues as the Mets’ charter plane touched down at San Francisco International on Sunday evening.

As pitcher Jack Wheeler tweeted:

Wheeler was referring to the Asiana Airlines jetliner that crashed at SFO the day before, an accident that left two dead and dozens injured. More than 24 hours later, wreckage lay strewn across a closed runway at the airport.

Mets players snapped photos from their plane on an adjacent runway and took immediately to social media.
