Galaxy’s Omar Gonzalez, Robbie Keane named to MLS First XI
Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez and forward Robbie Keane were both named to Major League Soccer’s First XI, soccer’s equivalent of a postseason all-star team.
They were joined by two former Galaxy players, goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, who helped the Portland Timbers to the best record in the Western Conference, and forward Mike Magee, who was traded to the Chicago Fire in May and finished the season with 21 goals.
The postseason selection was the third for Gonzalez and the second for Keane, who led the Galaxy with 16 goals and 11 assists. Keane is also a finalist for the league’s MVP award, which will be announced later this week.
It was also Ricketts’ second First XI honor and the first for Magee.
Portland, with three selections, was the most decorated of the 19 MLS teams. The all-star team was selected in a vote of media members, players and club management.
The full team:
Goalkeeper: Donovan Ricketts (Portland)
Defenders: Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Jose Goncalves (New England), Omar Gonzalez (Galaxy).
Midfielders: Tim Cahill (New York), Will Johnson (Portland), Diego Valeri (Portland), Grahame Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)
Forwards: Robbie Keane (Galaxy), Mike Magee (Chicago), Marco Di Vaio (Montreal)
