Woodcrest Christian beats Paraclete, 6-1, for Division 5 title
John Davis overcame a hand injury suffered in the semifinals to pitch Riverside Woodcrest Christian past top-seeded Lancaster Paraclete, 6-1, in the Southern Section Division 5 championship baseball game on Saturday at the Riverside Sports Complex.
Davis needed nine stitches after he was spiked on his throwing hand in a semifinal victory over Hemet Tahquitz. But he struck out seven and allowed six hits against Paraclete.
In the Division 6 final, Lancaster Desert Christian won its first title after a 4-2, eight-inning victory over Capistrano Valley Christian.
Kiel Alcaraz went 2 for 3 and scored three runs for Desert Christian.
In Division 7, Anthony Rios had two hits and got the save as Lynwood Firebaugh defeated Granada Hills Hillcrest Christian, 5-4.
