Joe Daley wins his first Champions Tour title

Joe Daley won the Senior Players Championship for his first Champions Tour title, closing with a two-under-par 68 for a two-stroke victory over Tom Lehman at Pittsburgh.

The 51-year-old Daley, winless in his brief PGA Tour career, had a 14-under 266 total at Fox Chapel. He earned $405,000 and full Champions Tour status for a calendar year.

Lehman finished with a 69. He was trying to win his second straight Champions Tour major after taking the Regions Traditions in his previous start.

Olin Browne was third at 11 under after a 65. Mark Calcavecchia, tied with Daley for the third-round lead, had a 72 to match 2011 winner Fred Couples at 10 under. Couples finished with a 71.

Ai Miyazato shot a six-under 65 to overcome a five-shot deficit and win the NW Arkansas Championship at Rogers for her second LPGA Tour victory of the year and ninth overall.

The Japanese star made a five-foot birdie putt on No. 18 to reach 12 under for the tournament, and her victory at Pinnacle Country Club was secured when Mika Miyazato missed a 15-foot birdie attempt on No. 18.

Ai Miyazato had seven birdies and one bogey in the final round to finish a stroke ahead of Mika Miyazato and Azahara Munoz.

Wales’ Jamie Donaldson won the Irish Open for his first European Tour title, shooting a six-under 66 for a four-stroke victory at historic Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

Donaldson finished at 18-under 270. Spain’s Rafael Cabrera-Bello and Paraguay’s Fabrizio Zanotti shot 66 to finish tied for second with England’s Anthony Wall.

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy had a 67 to finish at 11 under.

Enders makes history in NHRA

Erica Enders became to the first female driver to win an NHRA pro stock race, beating four-time series champion Greg Anderson in the final of the Route 66 NHRA Nationals at Joliet, Ill.

Enders, one of only six women ever to compete in the 200-mph category, drove her Chevy Cobalt to a pass of 6.627 seconds at 207.40 mph, and Anderson had a 6.641 at 208.36 in a Chevy Camaro.

The 28-year-old Houston driver raced past Kurt Johnson, Vincent Nobile and V. Gaines in the first three rounds to advance to her seventh career final round.

Antron Brown won the top-fuel division, Jeff Arend topped the funny car field, and Andrew Hines won the pro stock motorcycle class.

Brown raced to his second victory of the season when final-round opponent Steve Torrence fouled at the start. It was Brown’s 33rd career victory and his third at the track.

Arend claimed his first funny car win of the season and fourth of his career, beating rookie Courtney Force in the final round. Arend had a 4.131 at 309.20, and Force finished in 4.454 at 272.67.

In pro stock motorcycle, three-time world champ Hines claimed his second win of the season on a Harley-Davidsonwhen LE Tonglet turned on the red light at the start. Hines has 27 career victories.

Chicago Bulls restricted free-agent center Omer Asik agreed to a three-year, $25-million deal with the Houston Rockets, according to a person with direct knowledge of the deal.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal hasn’t been officially announced. Free agents cannot sign new contracts until July 11 and because the 7-foot Asik is restricted, the Bulls have three days to decide whether to match Houston’s offer or let him go.
