Morning line favorites: The Lumber Guy at 3-1 in the Malibu; My Miss Aurelia at 4-5 in the La Brea and Midnight Crooner at 3-1 in the Sir Beaufort.
Story line No. 1: Trainer Bob Baffert will have four of the nine entries in the Malibu; three of the seven in the La Brea and two of the eight in the Sir Beaufort. Law of averages says bet Baffert.
Story line No. 2: Jockey Edwin Maldonado, on nobody’s radar a year ago, won the recent riding title at Hollywood Park, edging out riding star Rafael Bejarano. Maldonado is getting more and more live horses now.
