Long Beach junior-welterweight Cleotis “Mookie” Pendarvis will headline a Florentine Gardens boxing card in Hollywood on Friday night.
Pendarvis (16-3-2, five knockouts) will seek to move up from the No. 15 International Boxing Federation ranking in the fight vs. Michael Clark (43-7-1, 18 KOs). Tickets start at $35, doors open at 7 p.m. Friday.
The southpaw Pendarvis, 26, has formerly sparred against the likes of Amir Khan, Timothy Bradley, Oscar De La Hoya and Victor Ortiz.
He’s angling for a busy 2013, hoping to start with a rematch against Riverside’s Mauricio Herrera, who beat Pendarvis by majority decision in 2009 in Ontario.
Pendarvis is 7-1 since, the loss being a bitter split-decision to a New Jersey fighter in New Jersey. Pendarvis has aligned with new managers since, and has dedicated himself exclusively to the sport.
“I just need to be in shape, that was my only weakness before,” Pendarvis said. “The world hasn’t really seen me yet. My fights are on YouTube, not HBO. But I’ve got a lot of skills and I want the world to see me.”
