The Times’ high school football All-Star team

Offense

Quarterback: Troy Williams, Narbonne, 6-3, 190, Sr. The Washington-bound Williams passed for 2,886 yards and 39 touchdowns in leading the Gauchos to a second consecutive City Section Division I championship.

Receiver: Steven Mitchell, Alemany, 5-10, 180, Sr. The USC-bound Mitchell caught 62 passes for 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was one of the most daring and elusive players in the Southland.

Receiver: Thomas Duarte, Mater Dei, 6-3, 225, Sr. In hand-to-hand battles with defensive backs, Duarte almost always won. He caught 50 passes for 920 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Receiver: John Smith, Long Beach Poly, 6-0, 170, Jr. The postseason brought out the best in Smith, who helped propel the Jackrabbits to the Pac-5 Division championship. He caught nine touchdown passes and had six interceptions.

Running back: Terrell Newby, Chaminade, 5-10, 180, Sr. He rushed for 2,305 yards and 45 touchdowns and scored 105 touchdowns in his prep career. He had games of 156 and 176 yards rushing against Gardena Serra, the Division II bowl winner.

Running back: Khalfani Muhammad, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 5-9, 175, Sr. The state sprint champion showed he’s also a top football player, gaining 1,420 yards and scoring 18 touchdowns. He had 247 yards against Bishop Amat and 207 against Alemany.

Line: Nico Falah, St. John Bosco, 6-6, 270, Sr. The USC-bound Falah was the offensive co-player of the year in Trinity League. He displayed strength, power and athleticism.

Line: Cameron Hunt, Corona Centennial, 6-4, 255, Sr. Hunt was the key player on one of the best offensive lines in the Southland, using his aggressiveness and determination to create opportunities for teammates.

Line: John Lopez, Orange Lutheran, 6-6, 320, Sr. The UCLA-bound Lopez helped open holes for one of the best rushing teams in Orange County.

Line: Kyle Sulka, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 6-4, 255, Sr. The lineman of the year from the Serra League was dominant with his blocks.

Line: Dane Crane, Santa Margarita, 6-3, 308, Sr. The Washington-bound Crane has been a standout for two years, displaying consistency and toughness throughout.

Kicker: Grif Amies, Corona del Mar, 5-10, 165, Sr. Amies tied the state record with 22 field goals in 28 attempts. He made a school-record 52-yard field goal and had nine field goals that were 40 yards or longer.

Defense

Line: Dalton Rocha, St. Bonaventure, 6-1, 222, Sr. Rocha had 17 sacks for the Marmonte League champions. Also a top baseball player, Rocha showed his versatility and toughness.

Line: Ainuu Taua, Lompoc, 6-1, 285, Jr. Using strength, size and agility, Taua was an imposing figure in the middle for the 12-1 Braves while stamping himself as a top recruit for 2014. He had seven sacks.

Line: Paulo Lepua, Narbonne, 6-3, 255, Sr. The City Section defensive lineman of the year was dominant, recording 26 sacks. He had 40 sacks in two seasons.

Line: Cory Harris, Chaminade, 6-1, 220, Sr. Harris recorded 201/2 sacks, using his speed and determination for the Mission League champions. “He’s relentless and fast,” Coach Ed Croson said.

Linebacker: Keishawn Bierria, Narbonne, 6-1, 205, Sr. Using his speed and versatility, Bierria was the player who found a way to make a difference play after play for the Gauchos.

Linebacker: Jayon Brown, Long Beach Poly, 6-0, 180, Sr. The UCLA-bound Brown was “flying” all over the field, as one coach put it. He contributed sacks and stuffed running backs repeatedly in big games and had three interceptions.

Linebacker: Dwight Williams, Gardena Serra, 6-2, 205, Jr. The inside linebacker had nearly 160 tackles for the Division II bowl champions, roaming sideline to sideline while creating havoc.

Back: Adoree’ Jackson, Gardena Serra, 5-10, 170, Jr. Teams tried to avoid passing the ball on his side, but Jackson made significant contributions returning punts, receiving and having five interceptions.

Back: Su’a Cravens, Vista Murrieta, 6-1, 205, Sr. The USC-bound Cravens averaged nearly eight tackles per game at safety. He had five sacks, three interceptions and blocked two punts.

Back: Max Redfield, Mission Viejo, 6-3, 200, Sr. A three-sport athlete, Redfield starred on offense and defense and was one of the most feared safeties in California. He had four interceptions and blocked four punts.

Back: Dominique Hatfield, Crenshaw, 5-11, 165, Sr. With eight interceptions, the Utah-bound Hatfield was a big-play weapon for the Cougars. He also contributed as a receiver.

Punter: Jason Sanders, Villa Park, 5-10, 145, Jr. Sanders averaged 45.9 yards on 47 punts. He had a long of 77 yards and was excellent putting balls inside the 20-yard line.
