Watch Jason Kidd beat former team with game-winning three-pointer

Jason Kidd was once a member of the Nets, a team he led to two NBA Finals. Back then they were located in New Jersey and didn’t have much of a rivalry with the New York Knicks, whom they beat on a regular basis.

These days, Kidd is with the Knicks and the Nets are in Brooklyn -- and quite a rivalry has already developed in just two games between the teams since they started calling the same city home.

Kidd missed the first meeting between the teams, a 96-89 overtime win for the Nets on Nov. 26. But he is now firmly ensconced in the rivalry, thanks to his game-winning three-point shot Tuesday that gave the Knicks a 100-97 victory.

Still, a slight pump of his fists was about all the post-shot emotion displayed by Kidd.

“I’m a competitor,†said Kidd, who had 18 points on six-of-eight three-point shooting. “I want to win.â€

But this was clearly more than just another victory for the Knicks, who improved upon the Eastern Conference’s best record (16-5) while thwarting their crosstown foes.

“It is a rivalry,†said Carmelo Anthony, who had a season-high 45 points for the Knicks. “It’s great for New York to have that in Brooklyn and in Manhattan. When we come here it’s a battle. When they come there, it’s going to be a battle. We expect that.â€
