Did Felix Hernandez repair damage done by Melky Cabrera? [Poll]

Melky Cabrera gave baseball’s detractors yet another reason to turn their backs on the sport Wednesday with his 50-game suspension after testing positive for testosterone, one of baseball’s banned performance-enhancing substances.

So his league-best 159 hits and second-best .346 batting average weren’t compiled the right way. That’s a bummer. Even worse, Cabrera is no longer available to the San Francisco Giants, who definitely could use his services down the stretch in a tight race with the Dodgers for the National League West crown.

What a bad day for baseball.

But, wait. Just hours after the announcement concerning Cabrera, Seattle’s Felix Hernandez gave baseball lovers a reason to rejoice, throwing just the 23rd perfect game in history and the first ever for the Mariners.

It’s the first time in baseball history that we’ve witnessed three perfect games in one season. Philip Humber of the Chicago White Sox had one against the Mariners on April 21 and Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants did it against the Houston Astros on June 13.

That’s pretty cool. What a special season.
