AT THE PLATE: Bench candidate Juan Castro hit a towering three-run home run. Andre Ethier had a double and James Loney had two hits.
ON THE MOUND: Tim Redding pitched three scoreless innings, extending his streak this spring to five innings. Former first-round pick Scott Elbert continued to have control problems, walking four of the five batters he faced. Elbert has walked six of 10 batters this spring.
EXTRA BASES: Ethier made a sliding catch near the right-field fence to end the top of the second inning. The play drew a standing ovation from the crowd at Camelback Ranch and it made most of his teammates wait for him at the top of the dugout steps when he returned.
UP NEXT: Hiroki Kuroda faces the Cincinnati Reds and Travis Wood in Goodyear, Ariz., at 6 p.m. PST Thursday.
