UCLA faces elimination after 10-4 loss to Michigan at Women’s CWS
OKLAHOMA CITY — Kelsey Susalla went four for four and drove in three runs to help Michigan beat UCLA, 10-4, on Friday night in the Women’s College World Series.
UCLA scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to chase Michigan starter Megan Betsa, but Haylie Wagner stepped in and held the Bruins to one run the rest of the way.
Michigan (58-6) is one win from the championship series. The Wolverines would have to lose twice on Sunday to be eliminated. UCLA (51-11) faces elimination Saturday. Michigan broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the fifth inning when Susalla singled, then scored on Lindsay Montemarano’s sacrifice fly. The Wolverines scored twice in the sixth and three times in the seventh.
Florida 4, Louisiana State 0:Lauren Haeger hit a two-run homer and threw a complete game to help Florida beat LSU, 4-0.
Defending champion Florida (57-6) is one win away from heading back to the championship series. LSU (51-13) will face elimination Saturday night.
Haeger’s homer in the top of the fifth inning opened the scoring. Freshman Nicole DeWitt hit a solo homer, just her second of the season, in the top of the sixth inning to put the Gators up, 3-0, and chase LSU’s Carley Hoover.
Haeger, the national player of the year, threw just 79 pitches.
LSU had won two of the three regular-season meetings and scored a combined 24 runs in the victories.
