Dayton women surprise Kentucky in NCAA tournament, 99-94

Dayton is still dancing.

The seventh-seeded Flyers (27-6) advanced to the NCAA tournament’s Sweet 16 for the first time in school history with a 99-94 upset of No. 2 seed Kentucky (24-10) on Sunday at Lexington, Ky., in the Albany Regional.

Ally Malott scored 28 points and Amber Deane added 23 for Dayton, which hit 11 three-pointers to help overcome 24 turnovers.

Texas 73, California 70: Imani McGee-Stafford had 20 points and 11 rebounds while creating a daunting mismatch inside, and fifth-seeded Texas (24-10) triumphed over No. 4 seed California (24-10) in an Albany Regional game in Berkeley.

In the Spokane Regional:

Gonzaga 76, Oregon State 64: Emma Wolfram scored a career-high 17 points and 11th-seeded Gonzaga (26-7) held off a furious late rally by Oregon State (27-5) at Corvallis, Ore.

Duke 64, Mississippi State 56: Freshman Azura Stevens had 22 points and 10 rebounds at Durham, N.C., where the fourth-seeded Blue Devils (23-10) built a 15-point lead and then held on.

In the Oklahoma City Regional:

Notre Dame 79, DePaul 67: Michaela Mabrey hit five three-pointers en route to 19 points for the top-seeded Irish (33-2) at South Bend, Ind.

Baylor 73, Arkansas 44: Nina Davis scored 21 points, Niya Johnson had 12 assists and the second-seeded Lady Bears (32-3) earned a win at Waco, Texas.

Iowa 88, Miami 70: The third-seeded Hawkeyes (26-7) used a late 15-3 run to seal the victory at Iowa City, Iowa.

In the Greensboro Regional:

South Carolina 97, Syracuse 68: Tiffany Mitchell and Alaina Coates each scored 14 points and No. 1 seed South Carolina (32-2) cruised at Columbia, S.C.

In the WNIT:

UCLA 63, San Diego 58: Nirra Fields scored 22 points at San Diego to help the Bruins (15-18) advance to the round of 16.
