Kevin Hogan, Christian McCaffrey lead Stanford past Oregon State 42-24

Kevin Hogan, a game-time decision because of an ankle sprain, threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns Friday night as No. 21 Stanford defeated Oregon State, 42-24, at Corvallis, Ore.

Christian McCaffrey ran for a career-high 206 yards to help Stanford (3-1, 2-0 Pac-12) effectively follow up last week’s victory over USC at the Coliseum.

The Beavers (2-2, 0-1) trailed only 21-17 at halftime and pulled to within 35-24 early in the fourth quarter on freshman Seth Collins’ 40-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Villamin, but Stanford answered with Barry Sanders’ 65-yard TD run.

Collins passed for 275 yards and a touchdown, and also ran for a score.

Boise State rolls

Boise State stunned Virginia with 17 points in the first seven minutes and rolled to a 56-14 victory at Charlottesville, Va. Jeremy McNichols scored on a two-yard run and a 10-yard reception, giving him a Bowl Subdivision-leading 10 touchdowns this season, and the Broncos (3-1) did not miss a step after losing quarterback Ryan Finley to a broken ankle last week.

Defensive tackle Justin Taimatuia intercepted a Matt Johns pass and ran 21 yards for a touchdown, McNichols’ 47-yard run set up his two-yard touchdown, and another interception set up Tyler Rausa’s 51-yard field goal. Just like that, Virginia (1-3) trailed, 17-0.

Teaff in hospital

Former Baylor football coach Grant Teaff was hospitalized after being diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs. Teaff, 81, executive director of the American Football Coaches Assn., was being treated with blood thinners in the intensive care unit at Providence Health Center in Waco, Texas, an AFCA spokesman said.
