Injuries lead Kings to sign goalie Anders Lindback to tryout contract

The search for organizational goaltending depth has led the Kings to sign veteran Swedish goalie Anders Lindback to a professional tryout.

Kings General Manager Dean Lombardi in a brief conversation Tuesday confirmed the move but said Lindback would be joining the team’s minor-league affiliate in Ontario. The move was first reported by the Swedish newspaper Expressen.

Essentially, the Kings have nothing to lose. Most recently, Lindback, 28, had a shot in New Jersey’s training camp but the Devils did not retain him. His most recent NHL gig was last season with the Arizona Coyotes, going 5-7-1 and with a goals-against average of 3.11.

The Coyotes are having their own goalie-injury woes this season, but the Kings’ issues are far deeper: Franchise goalie Jonathan Quick (groin) is out for about three months, and No. 2 goalie Jeff Zatkoff was placed on injured reserve after sustaining a groin injury in Saturday’s morning skate. If all goes well, Zatkoff could return next week.
