Football: Long Beach Poly outlasts Crenshaw, 28-15
The game was close for three quarters but Long Beach Poly dominated the final 12 minutes and defeated visiting Crenshaw 28-15 at Veterans Stadium in the season opener for both teams.
Poly quarterback Tai Tiedemann threw for 154 yards, including two fourth-quarter touchdowns to Christian Pabico, and Juju Smith had five receptions for 78 yards and three carries for 37 yards. He also had three long returns--two of which set up scores.
Jeremy Calhoun ran 11 times for 66 yards and James Brooks gained 55 yards in 12 carries for host Poly, which led only 8-7 at halftime.
All-City quarterback Ajene Harris completed 6 of 17 passes for 107 yards and two interceptions for the Cougars. Jacob Knight added 58 yards in 11 carries for Crenshaw, which took a 7-0 on Nolan Grigsby’s 79-yard punt return early in the second quarter.
