When Barbara Nwaba won the U.S. Olympic Trials in the heptathlon on Sunday to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, there were lots of L.A. University High alumni, City Section fans and students cheering her on from their TV sets or computer screens.
Nwaba, 27, was a City Section champion at University in the 300 hurdles in 2007 and went on to UC Santa Barbara. Her family has been big in Uni sports for years.
Brother David was a basketball standout at Uni and just graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Brother Victor played basektball at Uni and College of the Canyons. Sister Precious was a three-sport standout at Uni. Another sister will be an incoming freshman in high school this fall.
