Track: Celebrating Jim Ryun’s 50-year anniversary of first sub-four minute prep mile
Thursday, June 5, will mark the 50th anniversary of the first high school sub-four minute mile by Jim Ryun. Only five American high school boys have broken four minutes for the mile.
Ryun did it five times.
He ran 3:59.0 in Compton on June 5, 1964.
On Thursday at San Diego’s Balboa Stadium, the Festival of Miles will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. to honor Ryun’s achievement.
