Monday is freedom day for spring sport athletes who transferred without moving. They become eligible after sitting out the opening month of the season, and several athletes should make an immediate impact.
In baseball, Downey Warren will unveil junior pitcher Bryan Duenas, a transfer from L.A. Cathedral, on Tuesday against Gahr. He’s committed to San Diego State. Jose Ruiz, a junior infielder from Paramount, also becomes eligible for Warren, which is 8-0.
Granada Hills will gain a starting outfielder in junior James Bacon, a transfer from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. Taft will pick up pitcher Zach Roth, a sophomore transfer from Cleveland, and pitcher Max Mehlbaum, a sophomore transfer from Chatsworth.
In track, Tarrik Brock becomes eligible at Chaminade. He was the fastest freshman 100-meter runner in California last season at Crespi.
