Softball: UCLA-bound Madilyn Nickles of Merced is Gatorade state player of the year

Madilyn Nickles, a pitcher-shortstop from Merced who has signed with UCLA, has been named the Gatorade state player of the year in softball.
She was 20-5 in the circle with an 0.63 ERA. As a hitter, she batted .552 with eight home runs.
She was the only junior on the 2015 USA Junior National team. She has a 3.95 grade-point average.
