Softball: Highland’s Rachel Garcia is Gatorade national player of the year

UCLA-bound pitcher Rachel Garcia from Palmdale Highland has been selected the Gatorade national player of the year in softball.
She was 28-3 this season and struck out 418 batters in 175 innings while allowing 37 hits.
She had 20 shutouts, threw 10 no-hitters and had five perfect games.
She also batted .667 with 20 home runs and 57 RBIs.
Garcia injured her knee in the Southern Setion Division 4 championship game and will undergo surgery next week for a torn meniscus.
