Soccer: Max Valdivia scores two goals in Cathedral win over Loyola

When they come back from winter break at L.A. Cathedral, they may have to throw a parade for Max Valdivia.
He scored two goals on Monday to lift the Phantoms’ soccer team past neighborhood rival Loyola, 2-1, in an opening game of the Nike SoCal Classic in Oceanside.
Later in the day, Valdivia scored again in Cathedral’s 1-0 victory over St. John Bosco, another Southern Section Division 1 school.
Cathedral and Loyola are 5.5 miles apart near downtown Los Angeles. They don’t play too often in soccer even though both have top programs. Loyola is in Division 1 and Cathedral in Division 3.
Cathedral took a 1-0 lead, Loyola tied it and then Valdivia scored in the 55th minute.
In another match, Servite and Los Alamitos tied, 2-2.
