Please, no more seven officials for City Section games
For some unknown reason, Crenshaw decided to take up the option of hiring a seventh official for its game on Friday night against Los Angeles.
If you like lots of flags being thrown, it was your type of game.
Los Angeles was called for 18 penalties and 141 yards by my count. Crenshaw had eight penalties.
Nothing against seven officials, but they could probably call a penalty on every play. And it seemed like they did. There were good calls but also lots of holding on linemen called.
With a seventh official, the defensive backs really have to be careful. Several holding penalties were called on them. By game’s end, I was hearing coaches beg for calls on every play.
I’m just not certain seven officials is a good thing, particularly for City Section games.
Los Angeles won, 28-26.
