It’s time for basketball season to begin

For those who like sitting in a gym and watching hours of high school basketball, this is the week your wish is granted.
The basketball season begins on Monday, and there’s a terrific opening tournament at Redondo High. They’ll be playing two games simultaneously in two gyms to start the tournament.
The schedule: Compton vs. Campbell Hall, 3 p.m.; Westchester vs. Peninsula, 3:30 p.m.; St. John Bosco vs. Hart, 4:30 p.m.; Mayfair vs. Calabasas, 5 p.m.; Lawndale vs. Inglewood, 6 p.m.; Long Beach Poly vs. Taft, 6:30 p.m.; Serra vs. Santa Monica, 7:30 p.m.; Redondo vs. Narbonne, 8 p.m.
UCLA-bound Aaron Holiday of Campbell Hall, Oregon-bound Kendall Small of Mayfair, junior Vance Jackson of St. John Bosco, Auburn-bound New Williams of Santa Monica and 6-foot-9 sophomore Billy Preston of Redondo are among the top players to watch.
