Golf: Loyola, Westlake advance to state championship
The golf teams from Loyola and Westlake finished second and third behind Torrey Pines on Thursday at the CIF/SCGA Southern California High School Championships at Brookside Golf Course and gained qualifying spots for the state championship on June 3 at Poppy Hills Golf Course.
Brandon Bueno led Loyola with a two-under par 70. Preston Smith shot a 70 for Westlake.
The top nine individuals also qualify for the state championship.
Norman Xiong of Temescal Canyon shot a five-under 67 to lead qualifiers.
Collin Morikawa of La Canada qualified with a 71.
