Girls’ basketball: Judi Edwards is returning to coach Fairfax for one final season

Judi Edwards, who announced her retirement as girls’ basketball coach at Fairfax after 25 years of coaching to handle athletic director duties, will return for one final season.

Edwards was supposed to be replaced by former View Park Coach Corry Thomas, but issues involving players who transferred to Fairfax from View Park have forced Edwards to continue as coach.

Because Thomas won’t be coaching for Fairfax this season, former View Park player Fatou Semebene, a 6-foot-1 junior, will be eligible to play for the Lions, City Section Commissioner John Aguirre said.

Under CIF rules, you are not allowed to follow your former coach to a school, so if Thomas had taken over at Fairfax, Semebene would have been ineligible.
