Football: The Steve Clarkson influence
There are fans and critics of Steve Clarkson, the private quarterback guru, but what you can say right now is that two of his pupils, Tate Martell of Las Vegas Bishop Gorman and Max Gilliam of Thousand Oaks, are two of the hottest quarterbacks.
They’re a combined 11-0, and if you judge a quarterback by wins and losses, they’re perfect.
Martell, a sophomore, has been magnificient in being able to run and pass for the 6-0 Gaels.
Gilliam, a junior, is perhaps the surprise quarterback in Southern California through five games for the unbeaten Lancers. He’s completing 75% of his passes and has thrown for 1,451 yards and 15 touchdowns.
“I’m sending his film out to everyone in the country,†Thousand Oaks Coach Mike Leibin said of the 6-foot-3 Gilliam. “I think he’s got enough height, athleticism and has the arm strength.â€
