Football: South East players will enjoy happy Halloween

Look who’s in a second-place tie in the Eastern League. It’s South East (5-4, 4-1), which gets a bye this week before having a showdown game with neighborhood rival South Gate on Nov. 7.
South East has been getting better while relying on a group of improving underclassmen.
Junior quarterback Johnny Romero has passed for 1,339 yards and 17 touchdowns, including a 277-yard passing performance last week to defeat Roosevelt.
South East’s best college prospect could be junior receiver-defensive back Ereon Nash. “He’s got great coverage skills,” Coach Greg Dixon said.
Sophomore Elijah Galbreath is another promising defensive back, and sophomore Lawrence Nearn has contributed at receiver, quarterback and on defense.
The Jaguars will be off on Halloween while continuing to prepare for South Gate and get ready for the City Section Division I playoffs.
