Football: QB Travis Waller of Servite picks Oregon

Call it the perfect fit.

At least quarterback Travis Waller of Anaheim Servite thinks so after revealing Oregon as his college choice on Tuesday morning. Waller believes his ability to run and pass should make him an ideal player for the Ducks’ high-powered offense.

Waller has been always interested in Oregon, but it wasn’t until an official scholarship offer came two weeks ago that things got serious.

Oregon had made a strong bid for Corona Santiago quarterback Blake Barnett, but he ended up committing to Alabama after previously being committed to Notre Dame. The Ducks also wooed another quarterback, Kyler Murray, from Allen, Texas, who chose Texas A&M.

Maybe the third time is the charm for the Ducks, who will be getting a former receiver with great character, great commitment and impressive athletic skills.

If all goes as planned, Waller could be Oregon’s most important Southern California recruit since Crenshaw’s De’Anthony Thomas.

The all-out recruiting battle for Southern California’s top quarterbacks is coming to an end. One of the few quarterbacks still uncommitted is Sam Darnold of San Clemente. He visited Oregon this past weekend and recently picked up a scholarship offer from USC.

Off the board for now are Josh Rosen of St. John Bosco (UCLA), Ricky Town of St. Bonaventure (USC), Brady White of Hart (Arizona State), Tyler Hilinski of Upland (Washington State) and Sheriron Jones of Rancho Verde (Florida).

Now Waller will focus on trying to lead Servite to prominence this fall.
