Football: Mater Dei still deciding on a starting quarterback

Santa Ana Mater Dei Coach Bruce Rollinson still hasn’t named a starting quarterback for his team’s opener on Friday against Bishop Amat at Santa Ana Stadium.
But he’s getting close.
Junior Matthew McDonald and freshman JT Daniels both played in a srimmage on Friday against Fountain Valley.
McDonald, the son of former USC quarterback Paul McDonald, was considered the favorite after a solid summer.
But Daniels is no ordinary freshman. He has a strong arm, good poise and has been making steady progress.
The good news for the Monarchs is that they have a strong receiver group, a talented line, led by USC-bound Frank Martin, and their usual top defense to support either first-year quarterback.
