Football: It’s going to be a wild Foothill League
- Share via
Get ready for lots of crazy happenings in the Foothill League. From top to bottom, it’s going to be quite a league season beginning Friday.
No league should benefit more from the new Southern Section playoff groupings. The six schools have been scattered in various divisions, which means most should make the playoffs instead of the usual top three.
Saugus is at 5-0 after nonleague games, but Golden Valley (4-1), Hart (4-1), Canyon (4-1), West Ranch (3-2) and Valencia (3-2) are pretty good.
Saugus and Canyon are in Division 6; Valencia in Division 2; Hart in Division 3; Golden Valley in Division 7; West Ranch in Division 9. The only guaranteed playoff berths go to the schools that finish first, second or third in league, but the others can apply for at-large berths.
Valencia remains the league favorite and has played the toughest nonleague foes.
Friday’s opening games have Golden Valley vs. Saugus at College of the Canyons; Hart at Valencia; West Ranch at Canyon.
Valencia has been intercepting lots of passes in recent years in games against Hart, so that will be the challenge facing the Indians and quarterback Nick Moore.
