In 2013, the Granada Hills Kennedy football program fell apart. its coach, Dion Lambert, was suspended before the season, and everything went down hill from there, leading to a 1-9 record.

In 2014, Terrance Johnson was brought in and the Golden Cougars went 3-7.

But last week, the Golden Cougars showed signs of a comeback, winning their season opener over Contreras, 33-18.

“It is a much improved team,†Johnson said.

Kennedy was able to put together an effective running attack, led running backs Kenneth Trice and Najee Morrison and sophomore quarterback Giovanni Maffei. Linebacker Kevin Pham sparked the defense.
