Football: Glenn High ends 17-game losing streak
Vince Lobendahn, the former Lakewood coach, took over the program at Norwalk Glenn this season determined to change the culture and convince the players they could succeed.
So with his team trailing, 3-0, to Pioneer on Thursday night and with a fourth-down situation from the two-yard line and 10 seconds left, Lobendahn decided he didn’t want a tie. He wanted a win to boost his team’s confidence.
Martin Sanchez scored on a pitch to give Glenn a 7-3 victory and end a 17-game losing streak.
“It’s big,†Lobendahn said.
Last week, Glenn lost to Magnolia, 14-7, so Lobendahn needed to get his players to come through in the end. And they did.
Lobendahn committed to the program and he’s showing that by not electing to fly to Palo Alto on Saturday to watch his son, Teo, a starting lineman as a freshman at USC, which plays Stanford. He’s sending his wife and daughter. He’ll be scouting and preparing for Glenn’s next game.
