Football: Freshmen to watch
It’s tough enough to put together a list of top players from Southern California based on their potential and past performance. Imagine putting together a list of top incoming freshmen football players.
Well, Youth 1 has done it, and several are from Southern California. Many won’t be playing varsity this season.
Several are no brainers, because they’ve already made an impact in practices, such as running back TJ Pledger of Chaminade, defensive back Christian Swint of Compton and quarterback Matt Corral of Oaks Christian.
Among other players listed are James Townsend of Crespi, Re-Al Mitchell and Baraq Bass of St. John Bosco, Billy Edwards of Sierra Canyon, Tristan West of JSerra, Naythan Mulugeta of Venice, Merlin Robertson, Jaiden Woodby and Kobie Smith of Gardena Serra (Coach Scott Altenberg is already the favorite to win the Open Division in 2017).
For me, I’m going to wait and see who’s best based on performance.
