Football: Crenshaw faces challenging schedule [Video]

There’s one clear message being sent by Crenshaw Coach Robert Garrett with the nonleague schedule he has put together. And that is, the Cougars fear no one.

The season starts with an Aug. 22 home scrimmage against Garfield. Then comes an Aug. 30 road game against Long Beach Poly, the defending Pac-5 champion. On Sept. 13, the Cougars play Loyola at Mission Viejo. Then comes a road game against Fresno Edison on Sept. 20, a home game against Oaks Christian on Sept. 27 and a road game against St. John Bosco on Oct. 4.

Crenshaw should have less than 40 players on its roster, with lots of players going both ways. But the Cougars are working hard this summer to build up their stamina and don’t seem concerned about their difficult schedule.

Back are quarterback Ajene Harris and running back Jacob Knight to lead the offense. Lineman Kenneth Davis should be a force on offense and defense. The Cougars have done well in summer passing tournaments, but will they have the depth to survive their five-game nonleague journey against all non-City Section teams?

Their annual Coliseum League title decider against rival Dorsey is set for Oct. 18 at Crenshaw.
