Football: Coliseum will host City Section doubleheader on Saturday

With USC out of town, the Trojans have opened up the Coliseum for a high school football doubleheader involving City Section teams on Saturday.
Huntington Park will play Roosevelt at 11 a.m. and Los Angeles will face Hamilton at 2 p.m. Parking is $10 and admission is $12 for adults and $8 for students. Gates open at 10 a.m.
The Los Angeles Unified School District was given a “good rate” to rent the facility, according to the district’s athletic coordinator, Trent Cornelius. Because it was a last-minute agreement, there wasn’t much time to select the teams involved. Going forward, Cornelius hopes there will be more time to select games for a doubleheader.
Cornelius said USC wants to provide community-based support.
“It’s nice for them to open the doors for L.A. Unified that most don’t get to experience,” he said.
If a professional team moves to Los Angeles, the availability of the Coliseum in coming years could be difficult.
