Football: Can Serra or Chaminade fall in Mission League?
The Mission League begins on Friday night, and it remains in doubt whether there are any teams that can challenge Gardena Serra and West Hills Chaminade.
L.A. Cathedral gets the first crack at Chaminade with a home game. Harvard-Westlake hosts Serra on Friday night.
Last season, Cathedral finished 10-3, but two of those losses came to Chaminade, 62-26, and 45-7. Cathedral is 5-0 but has played probably the weakest schedule among any Mission team. It’s going to be interesting to see if the Phantoms can raise their level of play on Friday night.
Harvard-Westlake was 4-0 until getting pounded by Palisades last week. The Wolverines could be overmatched by a Serra team that took advantage of a bye last week to heal some injuries
The one team in the Mission League that’s gaining some traction is St. Francis (5-0). The Golden Knights are capable of being 8-0 going into their final two league games against Serra and Chaminade.
