Mater Dei senior shows off his versatility

There were some people skeptical about 6-foot-7 Stanley Johnson playing point guard for Santa Ana Mater Dei this season. After 23 consecutive victories, Johnson has proven he’s pretty darn good.
In his latest performance on Saturday night in a 69-57 victory over Chicago Whitney Young, Johnson scored 27 points, had eight rebounds and six assists.
The Arizona-bound McDonald’s All American has become very comfortable adapting to whatever role the Monarchs need him to play, whether being a pass first point guard or a shooting point guard.
His goal has always been to keep increasing his versatility, and that’s what he has done.
To beat Mater Dei, an opponent must figure out how to make Johnson have a bad game in a lot of areas, and that will be difficult.
