Boys’ basketball: Southern California loses another guard to prep school
Call it the great exodus of high school basketball players from Southern California to prep schools.
Justin Simon, an Arizona commit from Temecula Valley, is the latest, announcing he’s headed to Brewster Academy, according to the Riverside Press-Enterprise in New Hampshire.
He joins Max Heidegger, who left Crespi for Blair Academy in New Jersey. Kyle Leufroy decided not to return to La Canada St. Francis and will reportedly play for a prep school in Northern California.
Last season, Max Hoetzel from Calabasas transferred to Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Massachusetts.
In past seasons, California players have abandoned their local high schools to play for Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev.
Right or wrong, this trend has been going on for several years, with players deciding prep school offers a better opportunity to prepare for college or gain more exposure far from home.
