Boys’ basketball: Loyola trio impressive in 76-52 victory [Video]

Parker Jackson-Cartwright is healthy. Thomas Welsh is improving by leaps and bounds. And Max Hazzard has his shooting touch down.

It’s going to be quite a season for Loyola and its one-two-three punch if Wednesday’s 76-52 victory over West Ranch in the Santa Monica tournament is any indication of what’s to come.

“This is just the beginning of a special season,” the Arizona-bound Jackson-Cartwright said. “As we go along and practice, we’re going to get a lot better.”

Hazzard, a junior guard, had 19 points. Welsh, the 7-foot center who signed with UCLA, had 18 points. And Jackson-Cartwright had 16 points while looking like the Jackson-Cartwright of old.

“I’m finally 100%,” he said. “I’ve been hurt every year. I have a lot of pieces around me. I’m trying to be more aggressive.”

If the trio need any help, Yale-bound Khalil Bedart-Ghani will sure supply some added excitement. He had a monster dunk in the fourth quarter, something that could be a common sight this season.

Loyola plays at 8 p.m. on Friday in a semifinal game.
