Boys’ basketball: Joe’l Towers lifts Bernstein into City Section Division II championship game
A year after leading Bernstein to the City Section Division III championship, 5-foot-10 senior guard Joe’l Towers is at it again. He has Bernstein (26-5) playing for the City Division II title on Friday at 8 p.m. against Venice at Roybal.
“That’s my guy,†Coach Phil Rodgers said. “He’s been the backbone of our team.â€
Towers, who arrived from L.A. Price last season, is averaging 19 points.
“He’s been efficient,†Rodgers said. “We were disappointed he didn’t get player of the year last season. He’s a really good shooter.â€
Towers had 21 points on Saturday night in a semifinal victory over Eagle Rock.
