Boys’ basketball: Max Heidegger scores 38 points; Ryan Murphy gets 37 points; Oaks Christian wins
It was quite a scoring display on Wednesday night in the Marmonte League, where Max Heidegger of Oaks Christian competed against Ryan Murphy of Calabasas.
When the final buzzer sounded, Heidegger had 38 points and Murphy finished with 37. Oaks Christian won, 72-69, thanks to Heidegger making two free throws with four seconds left. Murphy mised the front end of a one-and-one with eight seconds left.
In the Trinity League, Mater Dei fought off a determined challenge from Santa Margarita to prevail, 59-51. Spencer Freedman had 16 points and MJ Cage 15 points. Kaden Rasheed led Santa Margarita with 14 points.
Orange Lutheran defeated JSerra, 83-44. Ty Lassiter had 17 points and KaVaughn Scott 16 for the Lancers. Sebastian Much led JSerra with 20 points. St. John Bosco defeated Servite, 62-53. JJ Watson had 20 points and Makani Whiteside 18. Pearson Parker led Servite with 22 points.
In the Mission League, Crespi pulled into a tie for first place with Alemany after a 64-53 win over Loyola. De’Anthony Melton scored 18 points and Taj Regans 15. Henry Welsh led Loyola with 21 points. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated St. Francis, 67-61. Chibueze Jacobs had 22 points, Jon Stretesky 16 and Chance Goring 15. Sean Stephens led St. Francis with 16 points.
In the Dey Rey League, Cantwell-Sacred Heart defeated Gardena Serra, 70-58. Jacob Davison scored 20 points. Darien Guyton led Serra with 27 points. Bishop Montgomery defeated St. Bernard, 77-60.
In the Western League, Fairfax defeated University, 96-53. Babacar Thiombane scored 26 points and had 10 rebounds. Donald Gipson added 21 points and Ethan Anderson 18. Keith Fisher had 14 points in Westchester’s 71-34 win over LACES. Palisades defeated Venice, 74-68. Will Johnson had 21 points.
In the West Valley League, Taft stayed unbeaten with a 60-51 win over El Camino Real. Abdurrahman Zaid scored 19 points and Brandon Thomas 18. Brandon Russell led ECR with 20 points. Birmingham defeated Granada Hills, 69-43. Devante Doutrive finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
In the Valley Mission League, Van Nuys defeated Kennedy, 53-42. Kyle Lord scored 26 points.
South Gate is 9-0 in the Eastern League after a 51-31 win over Roosevelt. Sheldon Brookins had 19 points.
Ayala cruised to a 93-49 win over Claremont. John Edgar scored 34 points and had 17 rebounds. Austen Awosika added 28 points and 11 assists.
Rancho Mirage won its 24th consecutive game and stayed unbeaten with an 80-39 win over Desert Hot Springs. Daryn Evans had 20 points and Charles Neal 15.
Simi Valley defeated Royal, 64-44. Jordan Alexander and Kaden Young had 16 points each. Westlake defeated Newbury Park, 55-49. Drew Brackens had 14 points.
Oak Park got a game-winning three at the buzzer from Riley Battin in a 49-46 win over Moorpark. Battin finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Los Alamitos stayed unbeaten in the Sunset League with a 77-65 win over Fountain Valley. Eyassu Worku scored 37 points.
St. Bonaventure defeated Bishop Diego, 55-34. Darius Vines had 23 points.
Santa Barbara improved to 24-1 with a 68-61 road win over rival San Marcos.
Santa Monica defeated Lawndale in overtime, 66-59. Jonah Mathews scored 26 points and Mikhail Brown 17.
