Baseball: Showdown is set between El Camino Real and Cleveland
The final week of the regular season in the West Valley League is going to be a good one after El Camino Real and Cleveland each won on Friday, setting up a two-game series next week to decide the league title.
Jordan Berg threw a five-hitter in El Camino Real’s 2-0 win over Granada Hills. Gerardo Ramirez pitched well for the Highlanders, who didn’t score a run in two losses to the Conquistadores this week. Cleveland defeated Birmingham, 7-2, with Sam Villa contributing a key two-run single to support pitcher Ben Kaser.
El Camino Real (21-7, 7-1) will play at Cleveland (20-9, 7-1) on Tuesday, then host the Cavaliers on Thursday. If one team doesn’t sweep the other, the teams could end up in a three-way tie with Chatsworth, which is one game behind.
Chatsworth defeated Taft, 9-2. Andrew Renteria had two doubles and three RBI.
In the East Valley League, Verdugo Hills defeated Grant, 9-1. Marco Quintanar struck out eight. Michael Galindo threw the shutout in Poly’s 6-0 win over Monroe.
