Baseball: Clinic set for Oct. 4 at Pioneer High

A baseball clinic featuring top high school coaches from around Southern California will be held at Whittier Pioneeer High in the cafeteria on Oct. 4 beginning at 9 a.m. The cost is $20.
Among the coaches scheduled to speak are Spud O’Neil of Lakewood, Tom Meusborn of Chatsworth, Mike Curran of Esperanza, Bill Dillon of Narbonne, John Gonzalez of Banning, Estevan Valencia of Redlands, Mike Voelkel of Palisades and Bill Eatinger of San Gorgonio.
Subject matters include daily practice plans, defensive pickoff plays, defending the running game, pressure offense, catching drills, base running and mental game and mechanics.
There also might be a discussion about dealing with sportswriters (kidding).
