Baseball: A good pro start for Ryan McMahon
Mater Dei senior has love for baseball
It’s not easy for an 18-year-old who used to live and sleep in his parents’ home to suddenly pack the bags and head off to begin a new life as a professional baseball player.
But former Santa Ana Mater Dei third baseman Ryan McMahon has been making a good transition. The second-round pick of the Colorado Rockies is batting .313 with 64 at-bats for Grand Junction of the Pioneer League. He has hit two home runs, has a triple and five doubles.
McMahon was known for his maturity and handling pressure during his days at Mater Dei. He was once Mater Dei’s starting quarterback, and anyone who makes it through that has to be prepared for anything.
