Girls’ basketball: La Jolla Country Day wins fourth state title

Mariana Ecija scored 14 points and Alaysia Styles added 10 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks as La Jolla Country Day held off Eastside College Prep 40-36 to win the CIF Division V state hampionship at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley.
Mai-Loni Henson had eight rebounds and six assists and Kiera Oakry had eight rebounds and four points for the Torreys (18-11), who lost to Pinewood in the Division V state final last year.
Isabel Aguirre made two free throws -- her only points of the game -- to clinch the victory with 6.8 seconds remaining.
La Jolla Country Day won the Division IV state title in 2012 and won back-to-back Division V state titles in 2001-02.
Kayla Tahaafe scored 12 points, Chacitty Cunningham had 11 and Destiny Graham added nine for the Panthers (25-6), who were making their first state finals appearance. Eastside College Prep had only six players.
