Three keys to the Ducks’ 4-3 overtime loss to the Flames in Calgary in Game 3 of their Western Conference semifinal playoff series Tuesday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome:

1.) Despite getting a break when an apparent tying goal with 6:17 left in the third period was disallowed, the Ducks couldn’t take advantage of their good fortune. Two late penalties led to the indisputable tying goal, by Johnny Gaudreau, and a penalty was pending against the Ducks when Mikael Backlund scored the winner.

2.) The Ducks’ old habit of giving in to emotion hurt them in the third period, when Calgary gained a four-on-three manpower edge and turned it into a five-on-three by pulling goaltender Karri Ramo.

3.) On the plus side for the Ducks was the play of Ryan Getzlaf. He set up Patrick Maroon for the Ducks’ first goal with a nifty pass and knocked T.J. Brodie down along the boards to win the puck and orchestrate the Ducks’ second goal by Corey Perry. Getzlaf recorded his third straight multi-point game against Calgary and fourth in seven playoff games.
