No Yasiel Puig or Clayton Kershaw brilliance in Dodgers’ 6-2 loss

Neither Clayton Kershaw on the mound nor Yasiel Puig at the plate was enough for the Dodgers to manage their first three-game winning streak since the opening week of the season.

Kershaw was outpitched by 34-year-old Jason Marquis as the San Diego Padres defeated the Dodgers, 6-2, on Wednesday before a Dodger Stadium crowd of 40,040.

The Dodgers were trying to win three consecutive games for only the second time this season and climb out of last in the National League West. Their only three-game winning streak of the year came April 5-7 when they swept the opening weekend series in Pittsburgh.

But Marquis managed to quell Puigmania and the Dodgers, holding them hitless until Skip Schumaker doubled with two outs in the sixth.

Marquis, who had allowed seven earned runs in the 8 2/3 innings of his previous two starts, lost his shutout when Adrian Gonzalez then lined a single off the glove of Jedd Gyorko to score Schumaker.

Marquis left the game with one out in the seventh after Scott Van Slyke hit his sixth home run of the season (all solo shots). He allowed the two runs on three hits and two walks in his 6 2/3 innings, with six strikeouts.

Since being called up from triple-A Albuquerque on May 10, Van Slyke has more home runs and extra-base hits (11) than any other Dodger.

Puig, who had electrified Dodger Stadium the past two nights, showed the Clark Kent to his Superman in his third game, going 0 for 4 with two strikeouts.

Kershaw lasted six innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on seven hits and three walks. He struck out nine.

He was not always helped by that Dodgers defense. Hanley Ramirez threw a ball away for an error leading to a run in the second. Gyorko hit a solo homer for San Diego’s second run in the fourth and Jose Guzman doubled in what proved the winning run in the sixth.

The Padres put the game away with three runs in the ninth after Paco Rodriguez loaded the bases with no outs.
