ON THE MOUND: Josh Beckett pitched five shutout innings, but was removed in the sixth because of discomfort in his left hip. Beckett said he felt something running the bases in the Dodgers’ five-run fifth inning. His journey around the bases included an awkward slide into third base. “It wasn’t the slide,†Beckett said. “It was the start and stop. We’ll see where we’re at tomorrow.†Beckett acknowledged the hip has bothered him for the last few weeks and is the primary reason the four days between his starts have become an ordeal. “It’s been a little more of a battle the last couple of weeks,†he said. “The day I pitch, that’s probably the best I feel all week.†Beckett lowered his earned-run average to 2.26, which ranks third in the National League.

AT THE PLATE: Adrian Gonzalez broke the scoreless stalemate in the fifth inning with a two-run single. Gonzalez finished the game with three runs batted in, increasing his team-leading season total to 56. Matt Kemp was four for five with two RBIs and a run. Juan Uribe collected a pair of hits.

ROSTER MOVE: Reserve shortstop Erisbel Arruebarrena was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right hip flexor. His spot on the active roster was taken by utility man Carlos Triunfel, who was recalled from triple-A Albuquerque.
