Puig, Hernandez homer in Dodgers’ 4-2 exhibition loss to Cleveland

AT THE PLATE: Outfielder Yasiel Puig had his bat flip in midseason form, flashing it after hitting a long home run off American League Cy Young winner Corey Kluber. Utilityman Enrique Hernandez homered off Kluber too, for Hernandez his third home run in three days. Shortstop Corey Seager, the Dodgers’ top prospect, worked a walk off KIuber and has a team-high seven walks this spring. Seager also has seven strikeouts in 14 at-bats.

ON THE MOUND: Left-hander David Huff, trying to win a spot as a long man in an unsettled Dodgers bullpen, pitched three shutout innings and gave up one hit, a bunt single. Huff became a father for the first time Thursday, but he insisted he was not tired Sunday, since he slept apart from his wife and baby Saturday night. “My wife actually kicked me out,” Huff said. “She told me to sleep in my own room and get some rest.” Chris Hatcher, a candidate to replace the injured Kenley Jansen as closer, retired one of five batters; his Cactus League earned-run average is 10.13.

EXTRA BASES: Brandon McCarthy opted for a minor league exhibition game Monday, so the Dodgers will start right-hander Chris Anderson against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Anderson, 22, the Dodgers’ first-round pick in 2013, went 7-7 with a 4.62 ERA at Class-A Rancho Cucamonga last season. Manager Don Mattingly said pitcher Chad Gaudin, who left Saturday’s game because of what he called a “tweak” in his right biceps, “felt totally normal” Sunday and will throw a bullpen session Monday. . . . Reliever Brandon League (shoulder) could make his Cactus League debut this week. . . . . The Dodgers declined to confirm a Baseball America report that the team had agreed to an $8-million minor league contract with Pablo Fernandez, a 25-year-old Cuban right-hander.
