Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw earns NL co-player of the week award
Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw has won his last three starts while posting a 0.82 ERA and allowing only 10 hits in 22 innings, striking out 22.
What a difference a week makes, or at least a couple of starts. Now it seems there are those feeling better about Clayton Kershaw beyond the faithful.
On Monday Kershaw was named the National League co-player of the week, along with the Mets’ right-hander Jacob deGrom.
It seemed a fitting co-award, since both pitchers went 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA, three walks and 18 strikeouts in 15 innings.
Not a bad week for Kershaw, who created a lot of baseball anguish in some quarters after he went 2-3 with a 4.32 ERA in his first nine starts. There are expectations, and then there are the expectations created when you win three of the last four NL Cy Young Awards.
Kershaw has looked back to his crazy standards in his last three starts, winning all three while posting a 0.82 ERA and allowing only 10 hits in 22 innings, striking out 22. In capturing the weekly award, he beat the Cardinals and Rockies. He held the Cards scoreless on one hit in eight innings.
He currently leads the league in strikeouts (101). This is his sixth career player of the week award.
